Sports and Remedial Massage is a manual therapy working on the soft tissues of the body including muscles, tendons, ligaments and the fascia that binds them together.

 

Sports and Remedial Massage is enjoyed by a wide variety of people. You do not need to be a sports performer to benefit from a sports massage. The benefits above can also help relieve the many day to day problems such as repetitive strain injury, sprains, tension, fatigue, that everyone experiences.

 

For sports men and women, regular massage can help alleviate fatigue, prevent injury, promote flexibility, aid injury recovery and help to address postural and biomechanical imbalances.

 

As a regular addition to a training plan, massage techniques will help restore balance to tired muscles. This allows them to work more efficiently as well as recover more swiftly from training efforts. The techniques will “flush through” your muscles - drawing in the goodness which the body’s own systems supply, and removing the waste deposits that naturally build up as part of a challenging training routine.

 

If you are recovering from a specific injury, then sports massage is a vital addition to the rehabilitation process helping to optimise the recovery time. Long strokes will help bring nutrients into the damaged area. Later in the recovery process localised deep friction will break down scar tissue whilst mobilisation techniques will help to restore a full range of movement.

 

Techniques I use include traditional massage strokes alongside muscle energy techniques, neuro-muscular therapy, fascial release and assorted stretching styles. Where appropriate I would also by able to help with any diagnostic and rehabilitation advice related to Sports Therapy and if necessary use techniques such as Kinesiology taping.
